Description
The Cocteau Twins song ‘Sea, Swallow Me’ was an inspiration to me for this painting. I was drawn to the imagery of a lost underwater civilization, hidden deeply under the sea. The characters are all connected to one another by opaque shapes which are produced by a mix of gouache and watercolor. They are enveloped in this blue cement, like statues which have been morphed into natural elements. The touches of red represent the characters’ past vitality and their remaining life which is slowly drowning in this vast, serene and sad open space.
