Description
During the trip to Venice on my honeymoon, my husband and I walked around the canals where we spoke of why the waterways looked so dull and polluted and saw rubbish floating in parts of Venice. This upset me as Venice is beautiful for its natural lagoon city. This is where I was inspired to create ‘Awareness’ based on Venice where some people often threw rubbish in the waterways.
Similar to Monet’s San Giorgio Maggiore capturing the water’s movement by using small brush strokes, I aim to create the impression of objects floating like boats at sunset. Similar to Daniel Wall’s depictions of Venice in bold, vivid colour palettes and his message of love throughout his work, I portray these aspects into my own to convey a positive message of the result of the world’s future if others continue to pollute in these waterways to destroy the beauty of Venice.
Georgian oil paints combined with Liquin original medium to enhance the colours and gloss of oil paints. Two layers of varnish added to the artwork to protect from dust and creates a final gloss finish. Hand-stretched on canvas (high quality medium cotton duck of 339gsm) onto high quality European pine wooden stretcher bars.
