Description
The dancers are glued together and clinging onto each other for dear life. A desperate attempt to escape this cold, brutalist environment? Or perhaps they are simply trying to enjoy themselves in difficult circumstances. The dark colours reflect their melancholy and loneliness. The blurry distorted shapes and distraught looking faces add to this feeling of fear, longing and anger which emanates from this scene. The contrast between the dark and the light colours symbolises the dancers’ duality and ambivalence. The title is contradictory and brings false expectations to the viewer. We are expected to be enjoying ourselves at a party, yet there is nothing joyful and light-hearted about this group of people. They all seem to be searching for something to cling onto, observing the other dancers or seeking to blend into the obscurity. They seemed trapped by the harsh and nitty gritty streaks of paint, thus emphasising their inner turmoil and harsh intense emotions.
