Naasirah A Ramjan
Naasirah Ayesha Ramjan is a British-Mauritian artist who was born on the Island of Mauritius. She grew up and resides in the United Kingdom. She completed a CCW foundation diploma in Art & Design at the University of the Arts London (2013) and completed BA Fine Art at Goldsmiths, University of London (2017). She has showcased her works locally and at World Art Dubai 200. She yet to exhibit more of her works to the world.
The selection of oil paintings focuses on the relationship between land and sea which some of them is based on the past, present and future. Naasirah visualize the land being the present whilst the sea being our future. It is a mystery of what is in the ocean below and are awaiting of what will happen. She forms a combination of the buildings/landmarks by presenting the modernised buildings above land and the historical buildings, which are mysteriously hidden below to pass a message towards the viewer that the healthy planet shouldn’t be altered to the extreme.
She tries to present the current events on canvas and aims to give them a soothing atmosphere of ocean life by using thick neutral oil paints with a palette knife and a glaze medium to create the waves of the sea in smooth brushes strokes and textural waves. In most paintings, the ocean is the main subject because it is depicted as a very calm and peaceful body of water whenever she visits beaches and water sceneries as well as relaxing the mind. She paints her works while watching films as they help to create colour combinations.
