Description
Laura I. Art Gallery is incredibly proud to be selling The Noah’s Ark sculpture; the culmination of an entire community’s efforts, a symbol of the incredible eco-conscious shift Barking has seen and a vibrant spectacle that has brought such advancement to Barking and Dagenham’s art/culture scene!
Through every single step of the process, participants from our beloved borough spent their time and artistic efforts to sculpt a piece of art that is truly invaluable. The 3,000 plastic bottles that embellish our boat have been individually litter-picked, washed, and personally designed by Barking residents on a weekly basis from September 2022 to February 2023, with tools and materials so generously donated by local organisations and companies over this period – even the build of the sculpture was a volunteer effort! The heart and soul that went into our sculpture sets it apart from any standard sculpture in the art scene right now – it practically bursts through the bottles! We believe that the visual impact of this prestigious piece of work is so evident simply because it is so real.
There is no limit to the places and spaces this large-scale sculpture can ignite with its awesome symbolic and visual energy; we encourage companies with office blocks to bid on our art installation for your workplace, transforming the typical office space into a hub of creative inspiration, that simultaneously symbolises the company’s commitment to environmental consciousness. For building development companies specifically, our sculpture would be a priceless asset, that could serve as a personal and meaningful public art display in the courtyards/surroundings of any up-and-coming building developments, solidifying the company’s dedication to eco- and community-focused design and initiatives. For individual collectors, our Ark would gleam and glisten in any garden, surrounded by the gorgeous greenery and local wildlife that inspired the sculpture, as a symbol of protection, in the first place.
The money raised from this sale will literally fund the future of Laura I. Art Gallery and its critical community initiatives – this money would make possible both the massive expansion of our current project, Noah’s Ark and bringing exciting new ones to life. To offer you a glimpse into how we are planning to fulfil Barking and wider boroughs’ potential as centres of accessible arts and culture, environmentalism on a community level and the celebration of inclusivity, here are our works in progress, here’s what we’re planning:
-
To continue the upcycling revolution through environmentally conscious programs and workshops in the gallery space, where young people could initiative the Noah’s Ark legacy by transforming waste materials into inspiring and thought-provoking pieces of art they can be proud of
-
To design and fashion a Noah’s Ark mascot – Noah – who can facilitate the delivery of similar workshops in schools, extending our project to young people where learning about how to care for our planet and think creatively would be the most impactful.
-
To curate unmissable exhibitions for the whole community, to enrich the borough and to offer our most deserving artists the opportunity to demonstrate their exquisite talents
Your bids can help make dreams a reality, for everyone!
Gary M –
I had seen this artwork up-close when it was inaugurated, and I was highly impressed by the skill, craftsmanship and its sheer size. It is very breathtaking as a sculpture and its visual impact will make it a landmark anywhere it is to be placed in the future.
