Agota Bričkutė
I unconditionally believe in the power of our subconscious. In order to represent both subjective and collective spiritual experiences, I use the principle of automatic drawing in my creations. Thus, my paintings acquire traits of surrealism as well as the aesthetics of a dream.
Artist Statement
Agota Bričkutė was born in 1993, in Klaipėda, Lithuania. In a very young age, she started
drawing satyrical portraits of her family members, friends as well as
self-portraits. At that time, she was also going to art school, but had a hard
time accepting criticism, so finally quit. After graduating from high school,
Agota moved to Kaunas and started seeking barchelor‘s degree of Art History and
Criticism at Vytautas Magnus University.
After graduating from university with highest grades, Agota started working as a freelance art critic and writer, wrote several significant articles about Lithuanian art scene. However,
she was constantly feeling the lack of self-realization. In 2017, after several
severe nervous breakdowns, she started painting. At first, it was more like a
self-theraphy, but soon this creative activity has developed to an increasingly
important role in her life. Since 2018, she has been actively participating in various
exhibitions and have received exceptional attention from the audience, both
local and international. Today, the young artist lives in her hometown, Klaipėda,
works as art manager in local gallery and paint in her free time.
