  • My thought pattern themed work deals directly with the energetic consciousness that flows within and around me resulting in intuitively expressed geometric abstraction that deals directly with the development of self as a spiritual journey.

Artist Statement

Sue Nicholas is a fine artist who works in predominantly acrylic painting as well as digital format and print and has a BA Hons Fine Art from Goldsmiths College 1980  where she studied Michael Craig Martins department.

An earlier career in collage/sculpture under her maiden name of Susan Dale is credited in the reference book “Artists in Britain since 1945, volume 1, David Buckman.

Since 2015 she has exhibited extensively regionally in galleries in the U.K. and digitally online.  In 2022 she was included in “Curating Futures: Immaterial” virtual exhibition on Instagram by Curators Lois Harkin and Skye Robinson and previously featured in The Huts Magazine “Connectivite” catalogue.  Her work featured in “Creative Reactions, Pint of Science” week at Nottingham University 2022, after a collaboration with Anete  M. de Oliveira, Professor of Geology at Brazil University, to make a set of eight digital art works for the department’s website in 2021.  Her work recently is featured at the Corn Hall Diss Norfolk from 25th February until 25th March 2023 and her digital work will be shown in New York in October this year.

Inspired by scientific investigations of consciousness, the focus on her own “Thought Patterns”  allows the development of extensive ranges of pattern variations.  Each work materialises intuitive thought processes, playfully developing, colliding and displacing geometrical and optical formats in colour interactions in space.  Imaginatively mapping and fabricating her own energetic identity as consciousness in the process. Her existential essay “The I in AI and I Am” on human versus machine consciousness, was published in the Art Journal “Nowadays” 2021.
